napowrimo – garbage picker – ngodwaaswi giizhgad – day six catch up

IMG_1391

with one milky blue eye
that bolts around in the socket
while the other is an eagle eye
 that searches along the sidewalk
 the road
 the oc transpo shelter
 he walks back and forth
 he is a crow
 jumping hopping to and fro
 picking up garbage
while we both wait for the bus
 on a sunny mid-morning day
except i sit
on the bench soaking in the rays
 and just witness
 this old man
 this garbage picker
 cleaning up the whole area
of the waste that lingers in mud
and puddles from another passing winter
this really is a throw away society
 archeologists
 anthropologists
will uncover all of this in a million years
if, this planet survives that long
it will see the inhabitants as
 reckless heathens
 without any values
 but maybe they will find
this poem of the garbage picker
 who picked up all
the waste from this throw away society
 who separated and recycled
each coffee cup and plastic soda bottle
 laying on the land, waiting
 for decomposition that won't happen
 in my lifetime
this poem is for the garbage picker
who doesn't wait for someone else
 who doesn't think it's someone else's job

this poem is for the garbage picker

this poem is for the one who makes the world more beautiful

by picking up garbage and recycling what they can
while people like me sit
in the sun and watch
thinking i wanna be more like you

the one who makes the world more beautiful
