napowrimo – nibi / water – daaswishinaawin giizhgad – day fifteen

bezhig / one

nokimis giizis side shuffles across the star crested sky

shkimikwe spins in slow motion that only turtles understand

nibi shimmers and ripples with anticipation

ziibii rises and touches the edges of the road with a rough caress

niizh / two

this eternal dance continues

the spring floods are right on time

yet, we act surprised

as if

this is the first time we’ve seen the river so high

as if

this is the first time our homes have been flooded

as if

this is something new

the only thing that’s different in this age is that

we’ve become dormant and rooted in place

building our homes closer to the waters like never before

as if

the changing of the season have taught us nothing new

nswi / three

nokimis giizis is dressed in red

shkimikwe lets the fabrics flow across her beautiful bountiful body

nibi wears a glittering gown that catches every beam of light

ziibii belly dances, letting the waves wash up and over the fluid edges
