napowrimo – migration – daaswishingodwaaswi giizhgad – day sixteen

the northwind whispers
calling us all home

the ice has broken, floating down stream
where frogs are beginning to sing

from above we fly in ancient formations
calling out to each other to keep flapping feathered wings

the northwind whispers go deep
an invisible magnet that pulls our collective spirit

the sun sinks below the horizon yet we fly
following the north star leading us closer

the moon floats below on the great lake
glittering, shifting, dancing

the formation flutters
a few of us linger behind

the moon, oh how the moon dances
along the surface
the moon, oh how the moon shines
engulfing the world with light
the moon, the moon, the moon

alas, it’s just me and the moon hanging in the sky
i am only moments behind
with only my voice echoing into the night
singing my migration song
